Now it is official that there will be no WSOP in Las Vegas in 2020
It is not really a surprise and it was actually clear to everyone that given the current situation in the world and especially in the USA, such a big event cannot take place in May as planned.
While the majority of the planned live poker events were canceled or postponed quite quickly due to the corona crisis, the World Series of Poker has been holding back for a long time. Now that the biggest poker event in the world has been officially canceled and postponed due to global stagnation, a revised version of the WSOP, including the $ 10,000 Main Event, is slated to take place in Las Vegas in the fall. No further information is currently available.
Actually, the WSOP 2020 should start on May 26th in Las Vegas as always. It remains to be seen whether the plan will work. A modified and smaller version will start in autumn this year. The tournament schedule is likely to change significantly, but the $ 10,000 WSOP Main Event would definitely be held as it is the annual highlight.
Until then, the WSOP, like all the other organizers, will concentrate on hosting online events, such as the special edition of WSOP circuit tournaments at GGPoker that was announced just a few days ago. In the last situation, there is no other option than to organize all planned live events as well as possible online.
There will probably be no official WSOP bracelets at the virtual tables, since the online poker market is partly separate and there is no provider that can allow players from all countries at the virtual tables.
The online poker scene will continue to be pleased that the number of players will remain far above the normal average. Nevertheless, of course everyone hopes that the situation in the world will quickly normalize again and we are positively looking forward to a possible WSOP 2020 in autumn.
