PokerStars vs. GG Poker Network

PokerStars vs. GG Poker Network

The GG Network and PokerStars are both some really good operator. In this article, we want to make a detailed comparison between the most famous and largest poker room PokerStars and the increasingly popular GG poker network. There’s not much to say about PokerStars, and PokerStars is still the biggest and best known online poker room in the world

Understandably, the GG Network is not well-known and robust as PokerStars but has become a real powerhouse in the online poker scene in recent years, and it is currently number 3 in the global online poker market, even ahead of PartyPoker/Bwin. GG Network has a soft player field with many Asian players; great promotions and a fantastic Rakeback program, and the poker operator is favorite among poker players

Both providers offer a variety of advantages, and we have, therefore, taken a closer look at both.

We will compare both providers through the following points in this article:

  • Amount of players/Traffic
  • Software
  • Rakeback
  • Promotions
  • MTT Schedule
  • Available payment methods

GG Network vs. PokerStars: Amount of players

When it comes to the number of players in the cash game and the variants: Texas Holdem and Pot-Limit Omaha, PokerStars has the lead. On the other hand, GG Network is at a 7-day average of 2,100 players, PokerStars manages to get around 6,000 players. Even though the number of players is higher in the case of PokerStars, GG Network has lots of traffic.

It is essential to note that the number of players at PokerStars is higher, but there are also more professional players at the tables. The players’ field in the GG Network is considered super-soft, because of the many casual players from Asia. Especially for Pot Limit Omaha, the GG Network with only 3% rake and a great Rakeback deal, has lots of actions in it.

In terms of fast-forward poker, the GG Network hve not so many limits as PokerStars and you can find at GG only 4 different limits: NL2,NL10,NL50 and NL200. The traffic is totally fine at NL2-Nl50. At NL200 it depends ont he time and you find not always nice action. but at least arround 14h a day.

As far as MTTs are concerned, GG Network offers are in no way comparable to PokerStars. Of course, there are some great tournaments also at the GG Network, and sometimes a special tournament series with millions of guaranteed prize money, but the number of tournaments and the daily offer is much better at Stars. Also, the variance is much higher than in the GG Network, as thousands of players participate.

And as far as Sit&Go tournaments are concerned, PokerStars comes first, because the GG Network does not offer any so far. But you can find at GG the very famous Spin & Go / Jackpot SNG where players can mutiply their buy ins with up to 12.000 within a few minutes. In general the spin sng tournaments are almost the same as at Stars. The difference is that you find at Stars more buy ins and also a bit more action.

So overall, this point goes to PokerStars, even if you still find plenty of action on the GG Network.

 GG Network vs. PokerStars: Software

As far as this point is concerned, the GG Network and PokerStars are top-notch. Their software is distinct and you can find your way quickly even as a beginner. You can easily play several tables at the same time. The Mac software and the mobile version leave nothing to be desired with both providers.
GG Network’s software offers some unique features, such as the EV insurance, Straddie and Run it Twice function, all-in insurance, Rabbit Hunt, or even the ability to stake other players or also sell shares of their action. But GG Network software is better than PokerStars.

PokerStars vs. GG Poker Network: Rakeback

As far as Rakeback is concerned, everyone knows, there is no Rakeback at PokerStars.

In the GG Network, there is the Fish Buffet program for all skins, which can even be up to 100% Rakeback at the top.  In the long run, this would, of course, be more than unrealistic. Additionally, the Fish Buffet brings around 50% Rakeback at the top.

Attention: YourPokerDream offers exclusive Rakeback deals for the GG Network which brings you a lot of extra Rakeback.

So you have it, GG Network wins when it comes to offering Rakeback Deals.

PokerStars vs. GG Poker Network: Promotions

Monthly, both providers offer a variety of exciting promotions, which bring you extra cash/ rakeback as a player. However, there is already a massive difference with the first deposit bonus. PokerStars offers a maximum of $600 as a welcome bonus, while the GG Network provides up to $2,000 depending on the skin

We recommend BestPoker when it comes to poker promotions, because every player receives a $2,000 welcome bonus, even if you only deposit $ 10. For every $ 10 rake, a player gets $ 2, which equals 20% RB.

Tournament Poker

Both providers offer some exciting tournaments daily with guaranteed prize money. However, as already described at the beginning of this article, PokerStars MTT offerings are much better than in the GG Network. It is also crucial to note that GG Network is still struggling to improve its offer, and in the next few months, it will undoubtedly do something, but to keep up with PokerStars, it still needs put in a little bit of effort.

GG Network has unique high roller MTTs, which once an hour hosts a tournament with a buy-in of $ 25,000. This also applies to its Mega High Roller.

This point goes to stars.

Payment Options

Popular e-wallet providers such as Neteller, Skrill, EcoPayz, Visa, and MasterCard are available for all sites. So the most used payment methods are available on PokerStars and the GG Network.

For crypto enthusiasts, GGPoker and Natural8 accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.

Although PokerStars does not offer cryptocurrencies, they do offer bank transfer and a few other payment methods – even though they aren’t used too often, and they are convenient for some players.

Depending on the location of the player,  the offered payment methods may differ slightly.

This point goes to both PokerStars and GG Network.

Final Words

If you look at the different areas we have compared, you will notice that the big name PokerStars is not ahead of the game as many players might think. In the end, the comparison is completely balanced and both providers are a good choice.

PokerStars is the only alternative for Sit & Go players, as there are no Sit & Go tournaments at the GG Network yet but for all variants the skins of the gg network are definitely an option.

Our recommendation: This is clearly in the direction of GG Network, especially to our partners BestPoker or GGPoker. Get our exclusive Rakeback deal, enjoy our exclusive promotions, get your 2k Welcome Bonus, and receive a ticket to the 1k Welcome Freeroll and our $ 100 YPD Freeroll.
