APT set to go live online due to the COVID-19 pandemic
The GG Poker Network becomes the latest company to give live operators an opportunity after approving the hosting of its first Asian Poker Tour (APT) online series.
APT Online Series will start from April 29 and span twelve days. The APT 2020 Online Series will be a replacement for the canceled live poker event across the continent.
Natural8, which is one of the biggest Asian networks, will become the main host of the event; however, the tour will be accessible across all GGNetwork’s skins.
Lloyd Fontillas, APT General Manager, stated through a press release: “As a land-based operator, I have put together a schedule mimicking our great tournament structures fit for our regular players with many different buy-in options.” Fontillas added: “We are excited to do this inaugural event with Natural8 as a partner, who has been supporting us since 2017.”
Asian Poker Tour Offers an Alternative to Keep the Action Going Despite the Pandemic
Asia has been one of the continents struck by COVID-19. At the moment, the number of people infected in China and Japan alone is more than 85,000. If we are to take into account, the number of people infected by the virus in the whole country it is more than 100,000.
However, poker is the last thing on people’s minds at the moment, although, those who want to play can still play. Just as most countries in Europe have done, APT Online Series now offers an alternative despite the pandemic.
A $500 buy-in main event will headline the APT Online Series alongside an $800 “championships” MTT. Also penciled in are Pot-Limit Omaha and Short Deck championships, costing $400 each.
APT and Natural8 hasn’t announced the schedule yet, but the tour is set to overlap Japan’s Golden Week. The annual celebration involves a four-day holiday in the course of seven days.
There are no doubts that this year, the annual celebration in Asia will be done indoors, as Shinzo Abe – Japanese prime minister announced a month lockdown that started from April 7. Hence, this should see the interest of APT increase in the whole continent.

GGNetwork’s Decision To Go International Will Impress the Global stage
GGNetwork is ensuring that the Asian Festival goes international and that way, it will ensure organizers have a chance to impress the world.
When APT was launched in 2014, and it was focused on Asian countries. Two years later, it increased and got licenses in Europe. APT is now the 5th most active online poker network globally.
Now that physical borders and barriers are not important, the APT has its chance to increase its prominence. With GGNetwork as its parent platform, the online series will reach out to players all over the world including Russia (GGPokerOK) and the UK (GGPoker).
