XL Spring Series Highlights

888Poker has decided to host the spring series on the boundary of two seasons yet again, with the program’s second half focusing on “summer.” 888Poker offers a guarantee of $1,500,000 across 37 XL Spring Series events from May 22nd to June 7th.  Surprisingly, the guarantee was raised by a third compared to the same event last year, but the average prize pool per tournament stayed the same (about $40k), while the average buy-in doubled (from $64.5 to $133).  This is hardly surprising given that 888Poker departed from Russia and lost a portion of their MTT viewership. They have also considered the seasonal decrease in traffic to avoid overlays.

This spring, 888 promises a lot of action. This comprises a number of events in the progressive knockout (PKO) format. When a participant is eliminated in this popular tournament type, they only receive a share of the prize.  Instead, a portion is added to the victorious player’s own bounty. This causes bounties to grow during the event. The PKO format results in some entertaining play later in a tournament. A variety of different tournament styles are also available. The series begins with the$109 Opening Event, which guarantees a prize pool of $120,000. The $11 PKO Triple Threat plays on the same day for players with smaller bankrolls, with $15,000 guaranteed.

On May 24th, there will also be a $215 Freezeout with a $25,000 guaranteed prize pool. On June 1st, a $109 PKO Eight-Max comes with a $30,000 guarantee.

Another intriguing event appears to be the $55 Triple Threat PKO on June 5th with a guaranteed prize pool of $40,000. A $525 High Roller with a $50,000 guarantee is also scheduled for June 5th.

The definite highlight will be the XL Spring #37 – $500,000 Main Event for a $250 buy-in. This tournament will run from June 2nd to June 6th. It will also feature ten starting flights. The Main Event will be held in a multi-day format. At the start of each Day 1, every player receives a starting stack of 10,000 chips. Participants are allowed up to 3 re-entries and 60 minutes for late registration. The blinds grow every 12 minutes and the game ends only after level 18 or if 14% of the playing field remains.

888poker aims to attract players of all skill levels and bankrolls. Players can already earn a place in the Main Event and smaller events. Freerolls and satellites are already in action, earning seats to the majority of the series tournaments. The XL Spring Series Freeroll, which does not require a ticket, also provides a chance to win one of the many Main Event seats that are being given away. The Daily Freerolls also give cash and Main Event tickets. Those seeking more low-cost qualifying possibilities will discover daily satellites starting at one cent.
