A raise is one of the possible actions a player can take when faced with an opposing bet. To raise means to not only go along with the bet of the opponent, but to increase it by a certain amount. Depending on house rules, the number of possible raises per betting round is limited, often to three or four, sometimes five raises per betting round. A raise following an opponent’s raise is also referred to as a reraise.
