The changes at PokerStars continues
The world’s leading online poker operator made a big announcement recently on multi-table players. The new policy, which will take immediate effect from Aug. 20, depicts that cash tables will now be limited to four tables alone and will be applied to all markets. This drastic policy change implies that poker players can no more grind more than five tables.
Severin Rasset, director of poker innovations and operations for The Stars Group, stated: “We understand that this change will have a very real impact on many players, particularly those of you who rely on multi-tabling as professionals. We haven’t taken this decision lightly, and we are confident this is the right thing to do for the future of the game. I hope that by focusing more on each table and winning more at those tables, you’ll find a way to adapt and continue as part of our community.”
PokerStars, Still Poised to Maintain a Sustainable Poker Ecosystem
One of poker’s biggest debate is table caps, as most poker operators want to maintain a sustainable poker ecosystem.
PokerStars tried effecting a six-table cap before in July this year – but only in the Italian market. The reason was to maintain its poker ecosystem and also to enable players act faster.
Some regulars went against PokerStars’ decision stating that it was a move against winning players. Other doubters pondered if the poker regulators were trying to make games much faster or accelerate the collection of rakes.
Last year, PokerStars declared the collection and examination of data concerning its move, to know if it will go ahead with the policy, but they did not announce for about 13 months.
On Tuesday morning, Rasset, through an official blog post, announced that the company has carefully taken a look at the result of the trial it made longtime ago. He said that there would be a massive cut to four table caps.
Previously, poker players were allowed to play on 24 tables, but now they are only allowed to go on four tables.
He wrote: “We want to maintain a sustainable poker ecosystem and a platform that players of all abilities are excited to play on well into the future. Attracting and retaining new poker players is crucial to the future of the game. By reducing the table cap from 24 to 4, we are reducing the number of multi-tabling players and increasing the number of more casual one-table players at each table.”
He further added: “This should lead to increased win rates on any individual table for the strongest players, while increasing the likelihood that single-table players will meet others like themselves. As a result, they’ll have more chance of experiencing winning sessions and continue to play in the longer term.”
Forum Reactions
No doubts, many players have benefited from grinding on multiple tables. Many of them gained fame and fortune with their ability to play vast numbers of tables simultaneously.
PokerStars drastic change was frowned at by many players on TwoPlusTwo. And many other platforms haven’t been happy with the recent move.
However, PokerStars may be looking to increase players in stakes so that novices in the smaller-stake pools do not have to compete with constant players.
It essential to know that PokerStars’ recent decision comes after it recently revealed that the number of its revenues and stock decreased.
