The collapse of the server produces an embarrassing start to the first two WSOP tournaments on GGPoker

It is not a surprise that thousands of players registered for this year’s WSOP at GGPoker. There is guaranteed prize money especially if you win a gold bracelet for a buy-in of just $100. But GGPoker was unable to keep the servers running because of a serious bug on its internet server.

Furthermore, the first two WSOP events had to be canceled and the rest of the tournament postponed to next Sunday. Both the opener: (Event # 32) and the Covid-19 tournament (Event # 33) were affected, which raised $177,378 for a good cause. GGPoker now aims to double that amount as a small apology to players in the tournament. The 3,684 remaining players of the opener event will also be compensated and will receive T $100 for the inconvenience. The tournament will, of course, continue next Sunday from 8:30 p.m. with the current chip stacks.

According to GGPoker, the official reason for the failure was that the server was overloaded due to the incredibly high number of players at the WSOP opener and the side events. GGPoker has assured players at WSOP that it has doubled the server’s capacity so that such an incident does not happen again.

GGPoker should have done more to avert such issues

It is not a surprise that the number of players at the WSOP 2020 broke all records. But it’s more surprising that GGPoker did not ensure that such problems were avoided in advance. It is already normal that GGPoker always has problems with its server about 2-3h on Sundays, and these lead to connection breaks.

Now that a unique event is happening, GGPoker should have done more to avert such occurrences. Hence, it casts a bad light on GGPoker, and of course, it also has an extreme impact on the fun and experience of the players in the tournament. All that is left is to wait and hope that this is just a slip and that a problem like this won’t occur again.
