Six Plus Holdem WPN

The Winning Poker Network(WPN) offers now also Six Plus Holdem

Six Plus Holdem or Short Deck Holdem is now also available on the Winning Poker Network (WPN). This type of game has taken the poker world by storm in the last months and has only been offered on the iPoker network so far. Since September, players in the WPN network can now enjoy the Six Plus Holdem tables and compete with players from all over the world.

Short Deck Holdem Poker is a variant of Texas Holdem with fewer cards. The game itself is the same, with a few minor exceptions. The 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s are removed from the card deck, which results in a few changes in the ranking.

Short-Deck-Hand-Rankings

  • High card
  • Pair
  • Two Pair
  • Straight (The small straight is A6789 and a big straight can still be made quite normal)
  • Three of a Kind
  • Full House
  • Flush
  • Quads
  • Straight flush
  • Royal flush

Big Difference: Three of a kind beats a straight and a flush a full house

With fewer cards, the ability to make stronger hands increases greatly, making Six Plus Holdem No Limit an action-packed game!

Since Short Deck Holdem Poker is uncharted territory for many players, we have created a calculation that shows you what percentage of a particular starting hand wins. After a hundred million hands were played to the river, came the following result of different starting hands against a random range of a apponent out. This table helps you to assess your starting hands a bit better.

While a few hundred million hands sound very much, a lot of variance is still possible despite this number. This table is simply intended to make a small comparison between the normal Texas Holdem and short stack Holdem/Six Plus Holden. It is also not considered a post-flop game. It is only the showdown value of a given starting hand versus an opponent’s entire range.

Having expressed these caveats, we can highlight a few changes.

  • The equities run closer in Six Plus Holdem than in normal Holdem. AA heads up in Holdem wins about 86% of the time against a random range. In Six Plus Holdem, that drops to about 77%. Strong hands are still strong, but not nearly as powerful as in Long Deck Holdem.
  • In Long Deck Holdem, you must get to about 28% of hands to reach starting hands that are a flip against a random range. In Six Plus Holdem we start flipping against a random range with hands as powerful at the top 15% of hands.
  • We see that ties are more common than Long Deck Holdem, in which ties happen on average about 7% of the time. In Six Plus Holdem, we see ties about 10.5% of the time.
